Getting Started with Ledger Live
Download and Install Ledger Live
To begin using Ledger Live, you'll first need to download and install the application:
- Visit the official Ledger website at ledger.com/live
- Download the version for your operating system (Windows, macOS, or Linux)
- Run the installer and follow the on-screen instructions
- Launch Ledger Live once installation is complete
Always download Ledger Live from the official Ledger website. Third-party sources may distribute modified versions that could compromise your security.
Connect Your Ledger Device
Once Ledger Live is installed, connect your Ledger hardware wallet:
- Connect your Ledger device to your computer using the provided USB cable
- Unlock your device by entering your PIN code
- In Ledger Live, select your device type (Nano S, Nano X, or Nano S Plus)
- Follow the on-screen instructions to establish a secure connection
If you're using a Ledger Nano X, you can connect via Bluetooth for wireless convenience. Make sure Bluetooth is enabled on your computer and your Ledger device is in pairing mode.
Initialize Your Device (First-Time Setup)
If this is your first time using a Ledger device, you'll need to initialize it:
- Choose "Set up as new device" when prompted
- Your device will generate a 24-word recovery phrase - write it down on the provided recovery sheet
- Confirm your recovery phrase by selecting the words in the correct order
- Set a secure PIN code to protect your device from unauthorized access
Your recovery phrase is the ONLY way to recover your funds if your device is lost, stolen, or damaged. Never share it with anyone, never store it digitally, and keep it in a safe place.
Install Apps and Add Accounts
With your device connected, you can now install apps for different cryptocurrencies:
- In Ledger Live, go to the "Manager" tab
- Allow the manager on your device when prompted
- Browse or search for the crypto app you want to install
- Click "Install" next to the app name
- Repeat for each cryptocurrency you want to manage
After installing apps, create accounts for each cryptocurrency:
- Go to the "Accounts" tab in Ledger Live
- Click "Add account"
- Select the cryptocurrency
- Follow the verification process on your device
- Your new account will appear in your portfolio
Logging In to Ledger Live
After the initial setup, logging in to Ledger Live is straightforward:
- Open the Ledger Live application
- Connect and unlock your Ledger device
- If prompted, allow Ledger Live to manage your device
- You'll be automatically logged in and can access your portfolio
Ledger Live doesn't use traditional username/password authentication. Instead, access is secured by your physical Ledger device and PIN. This means no passwords to remember, but also that you must have your Ledger device to access your accounts.
